Philanthropy

Alpha Phi Gamma, Inc. takes pride in participating in various philanthropic activities across campus. We celebrate philanthropy and community service in many forms and have participated in Junior Achievement, Hope Haven, Safe Passage, after school programs, Chicago Distance Marathon, academic workshops, NIU Martin Luther King Walk, campus clean up, and a number of other services. We concentrate serving the community on a national and local level. Nationwide, each school works toward ending Domestic Violence, and at campus we host Asian Awareness Week, Miss Asia NIU Pageant, and Walk for Women.

National Philanthropy

While Alpha Phi Gamma, Sorority Inc. continues to participate in various philanthropies such as AIDS Walk, Race for the Cure and House of Hope, our official National Philanthropy for the Sorority is the Fight Against Violence Towards Women. The origins our National Philanthropy began at our First National Conference in 1999. During this gathering, our Sisters decided to focus on a cause affects the lives of many women around the world.

Since 1999, our Sisters across the nation have committed their efforts in volunteering with shelters and organizations, and to help raise funds for this cause. In addition, our Sisters seek to spread awareness of this cause to build support in our communities.

The Ladies at Beta Chapter dedicate the month of October to education and programming that can better the lives of those suffering in Domestically Violent relationships. This is done through the “Domestic Violence Awareness Week” which is held on campus and by participating in programs within the outside community.

Currently we are also accepting donations for survivors of the recent mudslide in the Philippines...Please support! Remember- every cent counts!!!

In addition help fight poverty; donate a dollar and receive a white wrist band!! Donations will be for the ONE campaign.

As an Asian Interest Organization, we promote awareness through our Annual Asian Awareness Week in April. Through these events our goal is to allow an opportunity for the NIU community and campus learn more about the Asian culture. Our previous events have been published in the Northern Star Newspaper, PAISA Magazine, and as a sorority were awarded a Student Leadership Award from the Student Leadership and Development Office in 2003. We were also recognized as an active and visible organization at NIU at Taste of Asia 2004. Our events emphasize culture through: dance, music, historical events, leadership programs, movies panel discussions, and a collaborated Cultural Night with presentations, food, skits, a fashion show, and opportunities for other organizations to participate or contribute as well.
